Substance Profile
Bufotenin (5-HO-DMT) is a naturally occurring tryptamine found in the skin gland secretions of various toad species (Bufo) and in plants such as Anadenanthera peregrina (yopo/cohoba). It is structurally closely related to serotonin and psilocin. The question of blood-brain barrier permeability was long debated; recent research shows bufotenin is centrally active at sufficient doses. It produces short, intense psychedelic experiences with visual effects.
